| Hurray! Lily Isn't Dating Hirst, But… Posted: 23 Jul 2009 04:30 PM PDT
Damien Hirst is safe for another day, but the same can't be said of the poor schmuck that is dating Lily Allen at the moment. Attempting to find a normal playmate, Lily gravitated out of the entertainment bubble to find a new boyfriend. His name is Sam Cooper, a painter and decorator in North London. You don't get anymore away from famous than that. But Lily is quite taken with him, sources say. We think she is attracted more to the paint fumes than the man, but insiders suggest: "She wanted to go out with someone her own age who isn't involved in music or the media. Sam is really down to earth. He grafts hard for a living as a painter and decorator and leads a totally normal life. Lily is completely smitten with him. They have known each other for a while but have only just started dating properly." Wonder how long he will last before he gets a clue and bails? If his is really as normal as they are making him out to be, we give him to the end of the week. [Image via WENN.] |

Peter Andre has his drama shoes on, apparently. The brit singer is taking legal action against his ex, Katie Price, over comments she made about his fidelity during their marriage. Andre says, "I can hold my head up high and say I've been 100% faithful throughout my marriage and still am. Any reports suggesting otherwise are totally hurtful and false." His lawyer confirmed he is taking action. And what, you ask, did Katie say to warrant this? During an appearance on GMTV to promote her new book, Sapphire, when asked if Andre had been faithful she replied, "As far as I know I think he was faithful." That's it. Seriously. That's all she said. Maybe there's more there between the two of them and the statement seemed facetious, but even so, it's hardly malicious or pointed. Seems like a cry for attention. Well, it worked! [Image via WENN.] |

As we mentioned earlier this year, Iron Chef America star Cat Cora (above left) was preggers with a baby boy. This was at the same time that her wife, Jennifer, was also pregnant! Though Jennifer gave birth to their son, Thatcher, back in April. But now there's more happy news for the two proud mommies. This past weekend, Cat Cora gave birth to their fourth son! Her rep confirmed the news saying, "Cat gave birth to a beautiful baby boy on July 19th at 4:41pm PST. He weighed in at 7lb 5oz and measured 20 inches." As for the baby, he was named Nash Lemuel Cora. The name is apparently a combination of two things, Nash from the poet Ogden Nash and the Nobel Prize-winning scientist John Forbes Nash, who's life inspired the movie A Beautiful Mind. And Lemuel, which was Cat's maternal grandfather's name. It's Hebrew for a "Gift from God." Congrats to the very happy family! [Image via Getty Images.] |

Give birth to some babies, make the big bucks. Such is the motto for Kelis, who won big time at her custody hearing Thursday morning against Nas. (They haven't even cleaned up the after birth from popping out their newest baby and their already in court? Damn.) The judge ruled that Nas is expected to pay $55,000 dollars in combined spousal & child support a month, plus pay the mortgage on their El Lay home. And now, it officially sucks to be Nas! Cheaters never win, friend. [Image via WENN.] |
| Megan Fox Turns Down Bond Role? Posted: 23 Jul 2009 03:30 PM PDT
Megan Fox has reportedly turned down a role in the upcoming James Bond known simply as Bond 23. According to a source, she'd "rather be a more central part of a movie" than an "accessory." How refreshing! Does she think she's more than that all of a sudden? A rep for Fox, however, says: "The report about Megan Fox turning down a Bond movie is completely not true. There have been no discussions nor any offers. Megan is a fan of the Bond movies." [Image via WENN.] |

Amber Rose, Kanye's off-again/on-again girlfriend, was spotted last night attending the flagship boutique opening for GUESS in New York City hosted by Marie Claire. And, thankfully, this time she left the teal hair and hot pink lipstick behind. She was definitely looking like one fierce bitch yesterday. What do U think? [Image via WENN.] |

Opening day at the Del Mar Race track in SoCal on Wednesday was enjoyed by several famous faces and also, some mildly recognizable faces using up the last of their 15 minutes. Among the attendees were The Hills star Audrina Patridge and Out of the two, Audrina definitely works the classic, floppy derby hat much better. It looks classy, not like a white Hefty bag twisted to masquerade as a hat. Plus, we like the added bonus that it blocks her eyes from examining the ceiling. Who do U think wore it best? "Is Marijuana the Answer to California's Budget Woes?" Quite possibly! What do U think??? CLICK HERE to read the article accompanying this headline. [Image via WENN.] Is Marijuana the Answer to California's Budget Woes? Proponents of marijuana legalization have advanced plenty of arguments in support of their drug of choice - that marijuana is less dangerous than legal substances like cigarettes and alcohol; that pot has legitimate medical uses; that the money spent prosecuting marijuana offenses would be better used on more pressing public concerns. While 13 states permit the limited sale of marijuana for medical use, and polls show a steady increase in the number of Americans who favor legalization, federal law still bans the cultivation, sale, or possession of marijuana. In fact, the feds still classify marijuana as a Schedule I drug, one that has no "currently accepted medical use" in the United States. But supporters of legalization may have been handed their most convincing argument yet: the bummer economy. Advocates argue that if state or local governments could collect a tax on even a fraction of pot sales, it would help rescue cash-strapped communities. Not surprisingly, the idea is getting traction in California, home to both the nation"s largest supply of domestically grown marijuana (worth a estimated $14 billion a year) and to the country"s biggest state budget deficit (more than $26 billion). On Monday, Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger and the California legislative leaders a tentative budget agreement to plug the state's deficit, but it would involve making sweeping cuts in education and health services, as well as taking billions from county governments. Democratic state assemblyman Tom Ammiano has introduced legislation that would let California regulate and tax the sale of marijuana. The state's proposed $50 an ounce pot tax would bring in about $1.3 billion a year in additional revenue. Ammiano"s bill was shelved this session but he expects to introduce a revised bill early next year. If the state legislature doesn"t act, perhaps California voters will. One group is preparing to place a statewide initiative for the November 2010 ballot that would regulate and tax the sale of marijuana for Californians 21 years of age and older. Tellingly, the group spearheading the measure calls itself TaxCannabis2010.org, stressing the revenue advantages of marijuana legalization. The group hopes to collect the required 650,000 voter signatures by January to place the measure on the November 2010 ballot. "There"s no doubt that the ground is shifting on marijuana," says Ethan Nadelmann, executive director of the Drug Policy Alliance, which promotes alternatives to the war on drugs. "The discussion about regulating and taxing marijuana now has an air of legitimacy to it that it didn"t quite have before. And the economy has given the issue a real turbo charge." The legalization effort is getting serious consideration from surprising quarters. In May, Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger publicly called for a large-scale study to determine whether to legalize and tax marijuana. "I think it"s time for a debate," the governor said at a news conference. "I think we ought to study very carefully what other countries are doing that have legalized marijuana and other drugs." In California, medical marijuana sales are already taxed, and some communities are looking for ways to get a bigger slice of the pot pie. Residents Oakland are currently voting in a mail-in special election that includes a measure which would make the city the first in the country to establish a new tax rate for medical marijuana businesses. If the measure passes, Oakland marijuana dispensaries, which are now charged at the general tax rate of $1.20 per $1,000 in receipts, would see that rate raised to $18 per $1,000. A Field Poll conducted in California this spring showed 56% of the state"s registered voters in support of legalizing and taxing marijuana as a way of offsetting some of the budget deficit. Several national polls have shown that more than 45% of American adults are open to legalizing pot, about double the support a decade ago. Even the most ardent marijuana advocates aren"t expecting nationwide legalization anytime soon. Instead, any action is likely to come on the state and local level. For now, all eyes are on cash-strapped California, where high taxes could take on an entirely new meaning. |
