| Al Franken Loses His Latest Court Bid Posted: 23 Jan 2009 07:15 PM CST
This thing's gonna go on forever! We mentioned earlier in the week that Minnesota's current certified Senate seat winner, Al Franken , filed a motion to dismiss current loser Norm Coleman's suit to dismiss the state's recount findings. Well, on Thursday, a three judge panel found in favor of Al's nemesis, Norm. They rejected Franken's argument that their review should be confined to determining if the recount was mathematically correct and that the court has jurisdiction to determine whether votes were legally cast. Coleman's suit will move forward and a NEW trial will start on Monday. Poor Minnesota! You'll be representative-less for ages! [Image via Getty Images.] |

Barack Obama's inauguration was filled with several top politicians, celebrities, and some great musical performers. Unfortunately, for us all, Aretha Franklin's performance of My Country Tis Of Thee fell short of great. Very short. CLICK HERE if you'd like to relive that awful experience. Seriously, it hurts us to even say this but Beyonce's performance was 10 times better. But, here's something surprising. That fugly hat that Aretha wore on Tuesday with that huge freaking bow, well it's getting a lot of publicity. Obvs. According to reports, Luke Song's Detroit hat shop has been receiving several requests for the hat. The 36-year-old South Korean immigrant designer says the gray, felt hat, which has a Swarovski rhinestone-bordered bow, was all hand-molded for the Queen of Soul. It would cost more than $500 if it were made for sale. Song's hats have been described as "mainstays among Detroit's stylish churchgoers." Though he wasn't prepared for the amount of requests he'd have after the inauguration. Says the designer, "They want the same hat, but they understand, it's for the 'Queen' only. Ninety-nine percent said, 'That's fine. I'll get the next best thing.' " So just what is his next best thing? Turns out it's a similar hat with a satin-ribbon that sells for $179. That's $178 more than we'd pay for it! People in Detroit, beware, the Aretha-inspired hats will soon be taking over your city! Actually, the hat doesn't look that ugly. When it's on a mannequin. A new rumor floating around media land is that former Politically Incorrect host Bill Maher is the guy MSNBC wants for their 10 pm hour. The only thing is, Maher's a big ticket purchase and the cable net probably can't afford him. We can see Maher fitting right in after Keith Olbermann and Rachel Maddow. Must be good to have a famous sister! Haylie Duff has (once again) little sister Hilary to thank for getting her a job. "Singer and actress" Haylien has just landed a role alongside Hilary in her new sitcom, Barely Legal. Got to keep it all in the family. As part of Hilary landing the lead role, sources claim she also insisted that her 23 year-old sister be given a recurring role. Madonna fans worldwide (but mostly in Europe) are going to get very excited with this news! Rumors that have grown to almost a certainty know are that the Queen of Pop's Sticky & Sweet tour is going to be extended this summer. Different sources are reporting that Madge and her team are planning to add some cities that weren't on the tour last year to their upcoming schedule. And, no, it won't be a new tour, just an extension of the shows last year. Currently the new extension will last for two months, all of July and August. At the moment, we're only hearing of European cities being added. Nothing has been confirmed 100% just yet, but by the looks of things and from what we're hearing, it looks like it's definitely going to happen. Money money money money!!!!!! [Image via WENN.] |
