| It Pays To Work At The White House Posted: 12 Nov 2010 04:30 PM PST
In the past five years, the amount of federal workers earning $150,000 has upped tenfold. And despite the recession, it has doubled since President Obama took office. We had no idea our budget was fit for pay raises! Many fiscally conservative Republican in the U.S. House of Representatives caught wind of the situation last week and they are challenging the president's plan to give a 1.4% across-the-board pay raise to 2.1 million federal workers. "It's stunning when you see what's happened to federal compensation," said Rep. Jason Chaffetz, R-Utah. "Every metric shows we're heading in the wrong direction." Although National Treasury Employees Union President Colleen Kelley believes that the raise "is a modest amount and should be implemented" so salaries can compete with the private sector. Findings reveal that top-paid staff has been given every more across every department and agency. In 2005, the Defense Department had nine civilians earning $170,000 or more but when Obama took office it escalated to 214. And this past June, it rose to 994. It is true that government workers earn less than private workers or similar jobs, but we don't think Congress needs a pay raise. They earn $174,000, up from $141,300 in 2000. If they are gonna make that kinda $$$$, they should probably do something to earn it! |
| Nicolas Sarkozy's Son Is A Model! Posted: 12 Nov 2010 04:20 PM PST
Oui, oui! We likey! Pierre Sarkozy, the 25-year-old son of French President Nicolas Sarkozy and his ex-wife Marie Dominique Culioli, is apparently a model! Pierre modeled for designer Philipp Plein off the coast of Saint-Tropez. We like that photographer Olimpia Soheve went for the nautical theme. Thoughts?? |

Finally, Leonardo DiCaprio will get some closure with the woman who attack him back in 2005 by smashing a glass in his face. This morning, Aretha Wilson pled no contest to felony assault with a deadly weapon. She is expected to get two years in prison and then be deported back to her native Canada. Good! Keep her away from causing any more harm to precious Hollywood faces. [Image via WENN.] |
| Disney Preps Its Own Musical Show! Posted: 12 Nov 2010 04:00 PM PST
Frankly, we're surprised that they didn't jump on this bandwagon sooner! The Disney channel is reportedly developing a brand new musical series tentatively called Madison High, which will be in the same vein as High School Musical and Glee! The single-camera comedy will be written by Lester Lewis, who wrote for The Office, and will apparently be based around a high school and its students, attempting to rebuild their once great theatre program, while breaking out into original song and dance numbers. Execs are also in the middle of the casting process, so we imagine that very soon we're going to have quite a few new marketable young stars to succeed the MileyBird, Demi, and Selenita! We're not sure how receptive the older crowd is going to be, because we doubt that Disney will be able to give this one the edge and mature tone that Glee captures, but we still think that this has a lot of potential! What do U think?? Will U watch Madison High?? |
| Supreme Court Rules DADT Stays In Place, While Lower Court Rules Unconstitutional Posted: 12 Nov 2010 03:50 PM PST
Why can't they just let it go?! Although a lower court has ruled Don't Ask, Don't Tell as unconstitutional, the U.S. Supreme Court is leaving the law in place. The Obama Department of Justice also asked the court to keep the ban on openly-gay servicemembers in tact, while the case is reviewed. Several Log Cabin Republicans believe that the repeal is unlikely from Congress and the courts are forced to look to the federal judge ruling stating the policy unconstitutional. Considering the Pentagon stopped discharging gay and lesbian members of the military, we don't see the problem. Sad. Equality for all! |
| The Duffster Hits Up Lopez Tonight! Posted: 12 Nov 2010 03:40 PM PST She is just too cute! We love our Duffster! The actress, singer, and now author made an appearance last night on Lopez Tonight, where she discussed married life, her recent birthday, writing a book with no college education, and being the 'creator' of the Disney channel! We'd never thought about it, but it's actually kind of true! Lizzie McGuire really jumpstarted the new generation of Disney stars! We're so happy that she's made such a seamless transition into adulthood! Good for you, bb! Check out the clip (above)! Thoughts?? |
| Natalie Portman Writing Her First Movie! Posted: 12 Nov 2010 03:30 PM PST
For the first time in her career, Natalie Portman won't only be starring in a movie…she'll be writing it too! Natalie is currently shopping around her script, BYO (Bring Your Own), which she co-wrote with her college friend Laura Moses. The story is about "two very different twentysomething women who, after finding themselves unlucky in love, decide to throw a party to which each female attendee brings an eligible bachelor." Studio execs have referred to the film as a female-themed Superbad. And yes, it will be raunchy! According to reports, Natalie will star in the film, and Anne Hathaway has expressed interest in taking the second lead role. This is very ambitious, Natalie! We're excited to see how this plays out. …And of course we would LOVE to see you and Anne play the female versions of Seth and Evan. Is there a female McLovin' character too? LOLs. Next time you have a chemistry test, instead of slaving over massive textbooks all night long, all you'll have to do is watch this video! Guess all that time studying at Hogwarts really paid off, Does DanRad's performance make U want to memorize the elements? |
| Mel Gibson Gives Up All His Lethal Weapons Posted: 12 Nov 2010 03:10 PM PST
Mel Gibson is quite the gun collector! While he and Oksana Grigorieva are on trial for alleged domestic abuse, including an incident where Oksana claims that Mel waived a gun and threatened her life back in January, Judge Scott Gordon has ordered Mel to surrender all his weapons to the LAPD According to a document called "Receipt for Property Taken Into Custody," Mel handed over 7 different items, including:
Wow. There's really no reason for anyone to have weaponry like that just laying around in their house. Crazy. [Image via Buzz Foto.] |
