Ben Affleck Helping In Africa! Posted: 22 Mar 2010 04:45 PM PDT What an amazing cause! Ben Affleck is launching the Eastern Congo Initiative to support Congolese organizations that help survivors of rape and sexual violence, helps to reintegrate child soldiers into their communities, increases access to health care and education, promotes economic opportunity and creates community-level peace and reconciliation programs. Affleck, who just returned from a 5-day trip to the region, says in a statement: "The situation in eastern Congo has been neglected for far too long — it is one of the worst humanitarian tragedies in the world. I brought together this unique collection of partners in order to bring their experience in humanitarian relief and sustainable development to bear as we focus like never before on local solutions to challenges in this region. "Right now, the attention paid to this crisis doesn't match the needs of those affected by it. We will raise that attention level, and work with the extraordinary Congolese people who are making a positive difference in their own communities." IPad On TV Postponed Posted: 22 Mar 2010 04:37 PM PDT Apple has postponed their on-demand television plans for the upcoming iPad after networks and producers didn't cooperate with the company. Apple is trying to convince producers to drop the price of TV shows to 99 cents, but naturally the producers and networks are worried about how the price drop would affect the deals they have with the cable and satellite companies. Apple is saying that lower pricing could create a whole different market for producers, but so far they haven't taken the bait. Although Tina Fey was discussing her daughter Alice's possible future in acting, she happened to mention what she does NOT want for her. And guess whose name was mentioned?! Tina said: "Lindsay was 17 when she did Mean Girls and she was brilliant. But to have success and money at that age has got to be overwhelming. No-one tells you, 'No', and I definitely wouldn't want that for my child. I'd try to make her do theatre first, because you learn a real work ethic there, and we'd certainly try to make her wait until she's done school." Good plan! "Lindsay was a lovely girl," she said. He attempted to do his signature move during a recent concert at Carnegie Hall, and instead of landing in the arms of adoring fans, he crashed straight into the floor! OUCH!! Pop says: "When I landed it hurt and I made a mental note that Carnegie Hall would be a good place for my last stage dive. The audience were just like, 'What are you doing?'" Feel better, Iggy!! She has written a letter to Congress, fervently urging them to support the new Healthy School Meals Act of 2010 that would provide school districts with plant-based vegetarian lunch options and healthful nondairy beverages. Below is the letter ScarJo wrote to Congressman George Miller. It might be a good idea to send a letter of your own to your own Congress member. It certainly is a worthwhile cause. Scarlet wrote: Dear Congressman Miller, I've been involved with efforts to feed hungry children for years. Millions of families in America rely on subsidized school lunches, and these meals are absolutely crucial to children's well-being. That's why I'm asking you to support the Healthy School Meals Act of 2010, a bill recently introduced by Rep. Jared Polis. Children depend on adults to provide them with the nutrition and sustenance they need to reach their full potential. It is our responsibility, as adults, to give school children the nutrients and vitamins they so vitally need, especially during school hours where their food intake may be monitored. School is an environment where children develop life skills, skills that help them to become responsible young people who will one day be able to care for themselves. A means to a healthy diet and nutritional education must begin in the school cafeteria, on the lunch line. I am so thankful that the National School Lunch Program exists and helps children around the nation get enough to eat. But right now, many of the foods served through this program do not support children's healthy development. Many students who eat school lunches consume too much saturated fat and cholesterol and not enough fruits and vegetables. Childhood obesity is striking young children like never before and being overweight puts kids at risk of type 2 diabeties and other chronic diseases. Children deserve to have enough to eat- and I know you agree that they also deserve healthy food. Let's make sure the foods served in school lunch lines are as nutritious as possible. An insider on the set of 2011 Calendar Guys shoot revealed that the football player was complaining about his relationship with Kim: "It was a two hour shoot and Reggie spent most of it texting on his phone. In between photos and costume changes, everyone on the set could tell something was going on. He became a little tense, at one point." That night Reggie was seen at Robin Thicke's birthday party at 1Oak in NYC where he was "flirting up a storm" with a brunette beauty. The next day when the paparazzi asked him where Kim was he replied that he didn't know and said "no more questions" when they asked if they were still dating!
