| The Oscars Change Voting Rules Posted: 31 Aug 2009 04:30 PM PDT
In an effort to recognize "the picture that has the most support from the entire membership," the Academy Awards are altering their voting procedure for "Best Picture" this year. In the past, members have been asked to choose 1 nominee on the final ballot. This year ,they are being asked to put the 10 "Best Picture" nominees in order of preference, an unprecedented move in Oscar history. The preferential system has been used before for the nomination process, but never for the final ballot. So why change now? "There are certain mathematical dangers with more nominees," says the Academy's executive director, Bruce Davis. "You could really get a fragmentation to the point where a picture with 18 or 20 percent of the vote could win, and the board didn't want that to happen." So naturally if a film has more than 50% of the first rank, they would win the award. That's pretty rare, though, so this new system is designed to be as accurate as possible, factoring the other rankings when choosing the winner. Now, the nominated films will be striving to be in the top 5 to have a better chance at winning the coveted "Best Picture" Oscar. This news has not yet been formally announced to the Academy members. "I know people have been wondering about it, and even worrying about it," says Davis. "At some point we'll do a mailing, probably in the fall membership quarterly, to make it clear what's coming up." Surprise! What do U think about the new way to vote? Seems fair to us! [Image via WENN.] |
| Shanna Speaks Out Against Prejean Posted: 31 Aug 2009 04:15 PM PDT
As we mentioned earlier, Miss USA reject Carrie Prejean has sued the Miss California USA organization, and pageant organizers, Keith Lewis and Shanna Moakler. Just hours after the suit came to light, Shanna is speaking out. Her attorney says:
Well said. Also named in the suit is publicist Roger Neal, though noticeably absent is pageant owner Donald Trump. So she sues everyone except the man that owns it and runs it all? Looks like Prejean knows she can't fight the Donald! But she'll definitely go after the smaller heads. Plus, we're sure it'll make for some juicy content for her book/interviews. [Image via WENN.] |
| Brad Pitt, Doing Good in España Posted: 31 Aug 2009 04:00 PM PDT
Poppa Pitt is at it again with his do-gooding ways, no doubt influenced by his lovely babymomma, Santa Angelina. Brad the Dad was flying solo this time around, visiting an urban renewal project in the city of Aviles in northern Spain. Pitt toured the site on Sunday where the Oscar Niemyer Cultural Centre is being constructed. The city is hoping that the cultural centre will revitalize Aviles in the same way that the Frank Gehry-designed Guggenheim museum revived the city of Bilbao — now a bustling, cultural landmark. "He is interested in supporting the project, the cultural as well as the architectural aspects," says Pilar Varela, mayor of Aviles. He is particularly interested in the environmental sustainability of the centre, which we all know is a keen interest of Pitt's considering his "Make It Right" project in New Orleans. Sigh. Always thinking of others, Brad. We wouldn't have you any other way! [Image via WENN.] |

We'd love to be a fly on the wall during that dinner conversation! It's getting pretty serious between porn star/cagefighter Alex Reid and Jordan as he took her home to meet his family this past weekend. And, surprisingly enough, she didn't flash her junk or get so wasted that walking was a challenge! Too bad! Alex's parents never got to see everything he loves about her! On their first day at the house, the family (Jordan included!) ate take out, watched the X Factor and drank tea! Maybe she should save up a little bit of that normalcy for the kids! "The whole family loves Katie. She does not drink, only when she goes out which is not as often as people think," said a source. It looks like Jordan did everything you're supposed to do when you meet the parents: hide your true self! [Image via WENN.] |

He's back! Listen to Michael Buble's new single, Haven't Met You Yet, below. It's cute! Sweet. Good. But not GREAT. Feels a touch uninspired. But good song. What do U think???? [Image via WENN.] |

So hawt! As Robert Pattinson brings the seks on the cover of Premiere France, the most appropriate phrase that comes to mind is: Voulez-vous coucher avec moi (ce soir)? Yeah, we just groaned at ourself for the cheesiest of cheesy lines. But, hey, we like cheese! It makes everything better! |
| Blink-182 Cancel Performance To Grieve Posted: 31 Aug 2009 03:00 PM PDT

| Did Anyone Even Watch The Daytime Emmys? Posted: 31 Aug 2009 02:45 PM PDT
The Daytime Emmys have never pulled a huge audience, and Sunday night was no exception! Only 2.68 million people tuned into the 36th Annual Daytime Emmy Awards Ceremony on The CW - with a 0.6/2 rating/share, and the pre-show red carpet parade drew a dismal 1.21 million viewers to the network. AKA total suckage! Better luck next year! [Image via WENN.] |
| Paula Did Not Leave Idol Due To $$$$?! Posted: 31 Aug 2009 02:30 PM PDT
As much as we love to hear her slur her words, she never really gets to the point! Paula Abdul claims that the reason she stepped down from the American Idol judging table was NOT due to money, although she doesn't give any other reason. "I had to stand on my principle," Abdul tells TV Guide. "I'm going to miss the experience of watching young talent evolve into a place where they get to take off and soar." Or fall into the abyss?! She continues, "I stand on principle where many people stand on money. I'm a hard-working artist. I've lasted in this business for 23 years. And you can't do that unless you are good at what you do." Paula may not have an answer, but she definitely has confidence to back it up! "I believe in myself and you have to have your own self respect," she says. "And sometimes decisions are very difficult to make, but I've always believed that at the core I'm a survivor. There's not one thing I've done that I've really set my mind to that I've failed at." Oh yeah! Whatever happened to her Bravo reality show?! But, Abdul does have some goals in mind for the future. "I definitely want to do a talk show because it would be different. It would be a lot of fun variety with a ton of unexpected stuff and tributes to everyday people getting their big chance." So eloquent! Paula's talk show would be amazeballs! Time for the dog to learn some new tricks! [Image via WENN.] |
